The rest of the time..

Turn left out of Dihan, then first left after the café Le rendez-vous des chasseurs, route du Hahon/Kermabo

Turn right before the railroad, route du Cosquer/kerarno

If you have children or love horses, stop by Agnès at Equicelte (06-80-87-58-09 http://www.equicelte.com) to see the ponies and other equines, chickens, goats and pigs, and why not take a nice horse ride near the megaliths or near the sea to discover Morbihan in a different way.

Continue on to Sainte Barbe, a charming little village with typical Breton architecture and a 16th-century chapel, to discover this Plouharnel treasure.

Follow the road from Carnac to the center of Plouharnel. You can stop to taste Brittany's specialty, kouign amann (bakery on your right)!

In Plouharnel, head towards Quiberon. Enjoy the passage of the isthmus where your road winds its way through the middle of the ocean.

Look out for the "Côte sauvage" sign on your right. This marvellous coast, whatever the weather (locals flock to it on stormy days!), is a great place to take a stroll if you stop off at one of the small parking lots. Don't miss Porz guen beach and its arch. In the distance, you'll see Groix, Belle-île and the beaches of Port-Bara and Port-Rhu

At the end of the wild coastline, you can stop for seafood and coffee at Le vivier (02 97 50 12 60), a restaurant with a bird's-eye view of the ocean!

Continue on to Quiberon for a stroll around the resort, a crêpe or an ice cream by the long beach. For a galette, you can push on to Port Haliguen, where the Crêperie du vieux port (42-44 Rue Surcouf -02 97 50 01 56 ) has a special charm, especially in fine weather, with its enclosed courtyard planted with flowers.

Another favorite spot on the Quiberon peninsula is Saint Pierre (signposted from the central road of the peninsula, opposite the wild coast). Thursday morning market. For lunch, a nice place is Le Bigorn'eau (Quai d'Orange, 02 97 30 98 76) or the more chic Petit hôtel du grand large (Quai d'Ivy, Portivy, 02 97 30 91 61).

For swimming, you'll find Penthièvre beach not far from there, on the way out of the peninsula.

To get back to Dihan, head for Auray. At the traffic circle going to Carnac (rond point du purgatoire), turn left towards Ploëmel. In Ploëmel, turn left in the direction of Erdeven. All you have to do is take a break in your atypical accommodation or guest room, after which why not relax in the spa and wellness area, or dine in a gourmet basket.
